Bob Gentz writes: There are various organizations on Whidbey Island that are involved in habitat preservation that may be of interest to you. This month the Conservation Committee would like to feature Swan Lake Watershed Preservation Group. Swan Lake is at the northern end of Whidbey Island just south of Joseph Whidbey State Park, a few miles west of Oak Harbor. The group is dedicated to preserving and restoring the watershed to its maximum natural potential. They monitor the environment, actively participate to protect endangered habitat, advocate for watershed preservation, and estuary restoration.
Swan Lake was purchased with Conservation Futures Funds by Island County in 1999 for wetland & wildlife preservation, storm water & flood control, and low impact parkland & recreation. For more information see their website: www.swanlake-preservation.com.
The next time you are traveling on West Beach Rd., pull over at one of the lookouts by the lake and enjoy the scenery. (Think conservation)
Thank you, Bob, for this information.

Speaking with Jill and Clearance Hein I found out about Picturing Fido-Poster Campaign. Scoop the Poop!, sponsored by Island County Planning & Community Development. This is a fun thing for all, especially pet lovers. www.islandcounty.net/planning/Dogspace.htm.
The monofilament recycle containers project continues to be successful and two more containers are ready to be put in place.
I have no new report on Dugualla Lake.
Remember to wear a flotation device, fish with a partner, leave a plan of where you will be and when you are expected home.
If you pack it in-pack it out and pick up something left behind by someone who just wasn't thinking!
Please feel free to report any conservation activities you hear about or in which you have participated.
